Cristiane RONCAGLIO (soprano), Brasil

Tremendous musicality, rhythm, and sensuality – soprano Cristiane Roncaglio most beautifully confirms all the associations connected with her home country Brazil says otherwise relentlessly critical director and producer Frank Alva Buecheler about his enchanting artist colleague.

Born in Blumenau, Brazil, Cristiane Roncaglio studied Classical Voice with Professor Neyde Thomas and also Photography as a minor at Escola Superior de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná in Curitiba, Brazil, where she graduated with a Bacharel em Canto Lirico in 2002.

With her degree in hand Cristiane Roncaglio got herself a ticket to Germany to study at Hochschule für Musik Hanss Eisler in Berlin – her postgraduate studies in a European context where she received her diploma in 2007.

Peter Knowitschny, Willy Decker, distinguished vocalist Ute Trekel-Burckhardt, Professor Carola Nossek, last not least Barbara Bonney or distinguished vocalist Professor Roman Trekel as well as distinguished vocalist Brigitte Eisenfeld whose course she took at the Sommerakademie für Operndarstellung Schloss Laubach in 2006, a summer academy for opera singers in Germany, – they all were Cristiane Roncaglio´s teachers and colleagues far from Brazil.

Already back home Cristiane Roncaglio successfully performed in concerts and opera productions; in Berlin her career truly unfolded at Konzerthaus, at Theaterhaus Mitte, or at avant-garde Sophiensaele to great applause.

Thus, German as well as Italian opera, oratorios, and lieder belong to the wide scope of Cristiane Roncaglio´s repertoire. She devotes herself to the classical German lieder, in particular those of Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, and Richard Strauss. And yet, she is enthusiastic about Brazilian music, Bossa Nova as well as Musica Popular Brasileira. Again and again she has interpreted compositions by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Camargo Guarnieri, Carlos Gomes and others.

In 2010, Cristiane Roncalgio took on the role of the first flower girl side by side with Waltraud Meier in a concertante production of PARSIFAL at Palau de la Musica in Valencia, Spain. That same year, she played the part of Servilia in the success series TITUS IM BODE MUSEUM in Berlin conducted by Christoph Hagel, winner of an Echo award; in 2011, he engaged her as Angel Gabriel and Eva for his spectacular production of Joseph Haydn´s SCHÖPFUNG (THE CREATION).

Shortly before that Cristiane Roncaglio and the young director Britta Heiligenthal co-produced AVE MARIA CALLAS, as scenic-musical monologue which was a remarkable success in Berlin. Additional guest performances will follow.

Cristiane Roncaglio likes to choose unusual venues for her performances – be it to communicate ever more intensely with her audience, be it because she simply enjoys those different contexts. The large auditorium of the Brazilian embassy in Berlin, Freie Volksbühne Berlin, Schwartzsche Villa, ALiveria, Zosch, Hunting Castle Grunewald or the hall of mirrors at legendary Clärchens Ballhaus, all of those locations have served as ideal spaces for Cristiane Roncaglio´s creative mind and heart.

Composer Volker M. Plangg created the cycle DIE HINTERHÄLTIGEN HUNDE DER ZEIT specifically for Cristiane Roncaglio and Roman Trekel, a lieder cycle to be produced by ORF, the Austrian Broadcasting Station, in early 2012.

Her photography, her portraits in particular, reflect Cristiane Roncaglio´s precision and aesthetics. Intercultural, interdisciplinary – her musical talent and discipline represent a new generation of artists rigorously and successfully finding new expressive ways within the arts.
