
Born in 1948.
In 1972 he completed compositional course of the Leningrad Conservatory (prof. B. Arapov) and piano course (prof. N. Pozdnyakonskaya).
In 1975 he completed post-graduate studies in composition (prof B. Arapov). He is the teacher of the Leningrad Conservatory since 1975, lecturer since 1990, in year 2000 he was appointed as the Professor in the Department of Music theory at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and got a Candidate of art criticism degree.
In 1980 he was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize and in 1987 he received the Union of Composers Prize. In 2000 being a member of creative team, he was awarded the Golden Mask national theatrical prize for «Cinderella» (the Doll House Theatre). He is an active participant of public live : Chairman of the Board of the «Music and Contemporaneity» Foundation (President-V. Gergiev), DG of the «From Avant-garde To the Present Day» International festival, Organizing Committee Chairman of the Rimsky-Korsakov International competition, Art director of the «St. Petersburg Culture Days in Helsinki» culture program (2000), Art director of the Shalyapin festival (1999), Organizing Committee Chairman of the first Obraztsova International competition, Organizing Committee member of I – VI «The Stars of the White Nights» festival.
Among the works: operas «Exodus», «Lady's War», «Complaints Book», music drama «Masquerade», ballet «Peter Pan», puppet ballet «Summer Garden», operetta «Ladies And Hussars», two concert symphonies, concert for mandolin and chamber orchestra «Domenico Scarlatti», concert-cantata on folk lyrics, numerous vocal and chamber pieces, pieces for folk instruments, music for movies and theatre. His compositions have been released on vinyl and CD in Russia, US, Japan, Belgium, Italy and Germany.
